Sniff Your Blues Away

Updated: Jan 29, 2023

When you smell essential oils, the aroma molecules travel through your nose and bind to receptors in your olfactory system, which is responsible for your sense of smell. These receptors then send signals to the limbic system in your brain, which is responsible for controlling emotions, memory, and breathing.

The limbic system is closely connected to the hippocampus, the amygdala, and the hypothalamus, which are all involved in processing emotions, memories, and physiological responses. When the aroma molecules bind to the olfactory receptors, they can stimulate the release of certain neurotransmitters and hormones, which can lead to changes in the body such as reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and promoting relaxation.

Inhaling essential oils can also have an effect on the respiratory system, as the aroma molecules can stimulate the production of mucus and help to clear the airways. Some essential oils can also have a decongestant effect and can help to relieve symptoms of colds and flu.

It's important to note that the effects of smelling essential oils can vary depending on the individual and the specific oil being used. Some people may find that certain oils have a calming effect, while others may find them invigorating. Also, the effects of essential oils can be affected by the method of application, the duration of use, and the dose.

It's always recommended to use a carrier oil to dilute the essential oil before applying to the skin, and to use pure, high-quality essential oils, and avoid using oils that are labeled as "fragrance oil" or "perfume oil" as they may contain synthetic ingredients and lack the therapeutic properties of pure essential oils. It's also important to use essential oils with caution as they are highly concentrated and can be toxic if used in high doses. It's always recommended to consult with a qualified practitioner before using essential oils for medicinal purposes.

Try these essential oils is a diffuser for an uplifting hit. Always use high quality essential oils.
